2006 Sept – Flaming Whispers Wins Best Script

After making the long trip to Sydney, Hisown members Craig and Grant Hull had the opportunity to attend two evenings of film viewing, seeing in excess 40 Christian short films. The overall quality of films had improved from the previous years, demonstrated that short Christian film industry is steadily maturing.

On the third evening, the 15 finalists were shown in a packed Sydney Town hall.

After two numbers performed by the Christian band Revive, the first award of the evening went to Flaming Whispers for best script. The remaining 14 finalist were then shown with several awards going to other finalists for Best Sound, Best Animation, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and or Special Effects, Best Male and Female Actors. Two other awards were presented for People’s Choice and an encouragement award, the “Bright Spark”. Seven other films were shown as wildcard entries, all with the chance of taking the “Gold Sparky” for best film.

In the end the Film “Arthur” an entry from Hillsong Church took out the major honours, but this was followed very closely by “Flaming Whispers” with the judges admitting this decision was difficult to make.

Regardless of the results, it was an extremely positive evening, and considering there are some inherent difficulties in mixing the ambition of competition within the Christian paradigm, the participants were both supportive and humble.

If you have any interest or talents producing Christian film we thoroughly encourage you make the efforts in supporting the “Ignite” festival, and we hope to submit another project in the following year.
